ARRESTED FOR SHOP LIFTING

TWO FEATHER BOAS AND SATIN WAIST

Gertrude White Pleads Guilty, But Bessie Ridaut Will Fight Charge

Two alleged colored shop-lifters were caught last Saturday night in the persons of Miss Gertrude White and Miss Bessie Rideout arrested for stealing two feather boas and a satin waist from the store of E.F. Mills, 118 S. Main street. It seems that the two girls had purchased cloaks at Mr. Mills' store on the installment plan and went last Saturday night to pay for them. Left alone, they proceeded to appropriate the above articles to their own use. Monday Gertrude White was brought up before Justice Gibson and pleaded guilty. The girl wore a brown hat trimmed with green, which contrasted with her dark face made a rather striking picture. She said that she had spent the summer in Toledo and had come here this fall to work at Mrs. Frink's boarding house, and that this was her first offense.

Justice Gibson said that the usual term for larceny from a store would not be less than a year, but under the circumstances he would only sentence her to a term of 90 days in the Detroit house of correction.

Bessie Rideout was brought up before the same court Monday afternoon and pleaded not guilty.
