LOCAL BREVITIES

The Modern Woodmen will elect officers on Monday, Dec. 1.

The Assembly club will give the first of their series of parties on Dec. 5.

The pupils of Miss Minnie Davis will give a recital within a few weeks.

Mrs. Emma Fischer-Cross will give a pupils' recital during the first week in December.

H. H. Seeley has rented a house on Greenwood avenue and will go to housekeeping there next week.

The Young Men's Christian association will hold their annual election on Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, in the association rooms.

Miss Gertrude Palmer has arranged to give a talk on "Social Settlement" work early in December under the auspices of the S. C. A.

The quarantine has been raised from the home of Albert Fiegel and Mrs. Fiegel, who has been ill with scarlet fever is entirely recovered.

Mrs. James Cooper, of Forest avenue, fell from the top of the cellar stairs to the bottom Tuesday evening and broke both bones in her fore-arm.

Miss Amelia Kempf and Emanuel Kapp will be married at he Northfield German church tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.  They will reside on the old homestead.

Mrs. Barbara Sindlinger, wife of Simeon Sindlinger, of 918 W. Huron street, died Sunday at 2 p.m. after a short illness with pneumonia.  The funeral was held from the house at 2 p.m. Tuesday and at 2:30 from Bethlehem church.

The Shakespeare library at the University of Michigan now contains 5,092 volumes.  This library was made possible through the generosity of the late Hon. James McMillan.  As an effective working library for the study of Shakespeare collections, it is hardly surpassed.

The inquest which was held at F. J. Muehlig's undertaking establishment, 315 S. Main street, at 10 o'clock a. m., Monday, concerning the death of Chas. McMahon at the county jail last Friday morning, resulted in a decision by the jury that McMahon died from the effects of alcoholism.

John Corbett, alias Chas. W. McCart, who was brought back from Cleveland for horse stealing by Deputy Sheriff Kelsey was taken before Justice Joslyn at Ypsilanti Friday, where he waived examination and was consequently bound over to the December term of the circuit court.

Another of the informal receptions which proved so popular in October, was given Friday afternoon by the Woman's League.  Mesdames Wait, Biglow, Craig, Lane, Reighard, Goulding and Ford and Misses Skelpon, Skiles, Fay, Farnsworth, Kyler and Drummond received the guests in the parlors.  Dancing was enjoyed by the guests and light refreshments were served.

The Bethlehem Verein will hold a handkerchief bazaar in the Armory on Dec. 6, both afternoon and evening.  The collection of handkerchiefs will consist of all kinds and descriptions from the dainty point lace square to the plain hemstitched one.  Handkerchiefs for men, women and children will be shown.  Supper will be served from 5 to 8.  Everyone is urged to remember the date and to be present at this sale.

During the summer twenty-five musical instruments were presented to the University of Michigan by Mr. Frederick Stearns, of Detroit.  They have been added to the Stearn's collection of musical instruments in the museum.  The collection now consists of 1,500 exhibits, all of which have been presented by Mr. Stearns.  His first gift consisted of 1,000 instruments.  Since then he has added to these year by year, until now the University is the possessor of one of the finest collections in existence.
