WAS STRUCK ON THE HEAD

By a Five Foot Stone Slab This Morning

LELAND HETZHLER HURT

He Lies in a Precarious Condition. A serious Accident at New Engineer Building.

A serious accident occurred Monday morning at the new engineering building when Leland Hetzhler was struck on the head by a five-foot slab of stone weighing about 600 pounds, which fell from the top of the second story of the building. The stone struck Hetzhler on the head crushing his skull and also struck his leg, badly fracturing that.

The accident occurred soon after 7 o'clock Monday. Hetzhler, who is a stone cutter, was working on the ground beneath the wall which is being put up, when this great slab slipped from the workmen's hands at the top of the wall, fell and struck him down. The stone fell with such force that it was buried into the ground about two feet.

The unfortunate man was removed to his home on S. University avenue, and Dr. Wm. F. Breakey was called. He pronounced the man to be in a very precarious condition, but he has hopes of being able to pull him through.

An operation was performed on the man's skull Monday afternoon.
