Begin Work on Canal at Once 

Washington, D. C. April 9. - In order to have everything in readiness or the prompt inauguration of the work on the Panama canal on a large scale, the United States is about to take control of the property of the property of the French company without waiting for the actual ratification of the treaty by Colombia. Admiral Walker. Gen. Haines and Prof. Burr who are to members of the permanent committee to complete the canal, who will leave New York at once for Colon. The committee will appraise the work done by the French company since it made its offer to sell the canal to the United States for $40,000,000 and will direct the labor from now on along the plans of the United States commission.
