MR. WHITTAKER HAS RESIGNED

Board of Auditors Tangle will Now Be Straightened

BOARD WILL APPOINT

Third Member Tomorrow – Will Undoubtedly be Ann Arbor Man – Several Mentioned

Today was to be the first regular meeting of the new county board of auditors. But when Messrs. McGregor and Riemenschneider arrived in town for the meeting a telephone message from the third member, B. C. Whitaker, informed them that he was ill at his home and that he had decided to resign from the board. Thereupon it was decided to adjourn the meeting until tomorrow to give time to receive Mr. Whitaker's formal resignation. This, the Argus understands, is now in the hands of Chairman McGregor. Just what grounds the resignation is based upon is not stated.

Many have believed Mr. Whitaker ineligible under a constitutional provision hitherto quoted in these columns. All testify to Mr. Whitaker's entire personal fitness for the place and many regrets have been heard that his membership in the legislature should stand in the way of his holding the place to which he was appointed.

The resignation of Mr. Whitaker will no doubt straighten out all matter with the new board of auditors which have caused considerable discussion in the past few weeks.

It is assumed, of course, that an Ann Arbor man will be appointed to the vacancy. There is a report that George J. Mann is the coming member. The names of Col. Frazier and Judge Harriman are also mentioned, but nothing definite can be stated. Any one of the gentlemen named would fill the bill admirably.
