Some Things About Michigan Loan And Savings Ass's

U. S. MARSHAL BATES

---

Visits Ann Arbor Seeking for Information-Investors Got their Money Sereral Years Ago

---

United States Marshal Bates, of Detroit, was in the city last week and his visit gave some people a severe scare and has started others to wondering what can be in the wind.

Mr. Bates gave out that he wanted to see a number of people and in his search stepped into a well known saloon. The proprietor knew the marshal and when he saw the official, visions of all the deeds he had committed-good, bad and indifferent-for the past year flitted through his mind and the reception accorded the government representative was colder than one of the recent July mornings. He was soon set at rest, however, as to his own direlictions, if any, and the marshal secured the desired information.

It appears that the Michigan Loan and Savings Association is in bankruptcy and in the process of settling up the affairs of the concern the authorities want a lot of information. The books of the concern show that a large number of Ann Arbor people were investors in the bonds of the company, and hence the visit here to look them up. All of the people who invested here, it is said, had their bonds matured several years ago and it cannot be understood just what light they can throw on the tangled affairs of the association, but nevertheless the court seems to know and a number of them may be asked to go to Detroit to tell their experience with the company's methods.
