MOWING MACHINE CUT OFF FOOT

Herman Guekunst of Northside, Meets with Accident

FOOT SEVERED AT ANKLE

Taken to University Hospital Where He is Reported to be Doing Well

While assisting in mowing a field, Friday morning, Herman Gutekunst,of 1126 BroadWay, had his left foot cut off at the ankle by the mowing machine.

Mr. Gutekunst has for some time been working for a farmer living near Honey Creek, about five miles west of the city, and this morning while aiding in mowing a field found it necessary to move some ties which had washed into the field from the roadbed of the electric railway. While engaged in this work and just as the machine was a few feet behind him, he stepped to the left just far enough to be caught by the guard and before the machine could be stopped the knives had severed the foot.

Mr. Gutekunst was picked up and the limb tied up to prevent bleeding to death. He was brought to town and Dr. M. L. Belser called, who immediately had him taken to the University hospital, where he is reported as doing well.

Mr. Gutekunst is a highly respected and hardworking citizen of the Northside and has many friends who will sympathize with him in his affliction. He is a member of the German Landwehr Verein, No. 6, and has a wife who is an invalid.
