Big Increase In State Taxes

Washtenaw's Share the Largest Ever Levied

Than Two Years Ago - Approximate Amounts That Will Be Paid by Townships

When the Board of Supervisors meet in regular session next week the most important duty they will have to perform will be the apportionment among the townships of the enormous state tax levied this year. This tax is the largest ever raised in the state and is nearly 50 per cent greater than that raised last year. Last year the amount apportioned to Washtenaw county was $62,599.27, while this year the amount is $93,854.58, an increase of $31,253.31. In this city which last year paid 28 per cent of the county's share, or $17,528, the increase is $8,751.27, bringing the sum to be raised to $26,279.27 if the same equalization is used as last year. For the purpose of comparison we have figured the amount each township will have to pay this year based on last year's apportionment. While the figures are not absolutely accurate they will vary but a dollar or two either way. The figures may be changed somewhat, however, by the fact that the board may change the valuations of some of the townships. We give both the apportionment of last year and the amount that is figured for this year:
