CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS WILL BE HELD

---

By the Government-150 Teachers Wanted at Salaries From $900 to $1200 Per Year

---

The United States Civil Service commission announces an examination for the position of teacher (male only) in the Philippine Service to be held October 19-10, 1903, in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Manistee, Marquette, Saginaw and Sault Ste. Marie, as the points in Michigan.

This examination will be held to supply 150 teachers, with salaries as follows: 25 at $1,200, 70 at $1,000, and 55 at $900 per annum.

Appointments will be made at the salaries mentioned, based upon the experience and the relative standing in the examination.

Those appointed will be eligible for promotion to the higher grades in the service, ranging from $900 to $2,000, for teachers and from $1,500 to $2,500 for division superintendents.

As peace has been established in the Philippines and the conditions of living are improving every month this examination affords an excellent opportunity for young men to enter an attractive service in which there is good prospects for promotion. It seems that an excellent point could be made for examinations at Ann Arbor, because of its concentrated interest in educational matters.
