ANNOUNCEMENTS OF THE S.L.A.

An Unusually Strong Course Has Been Arranged

Will Open the Course on Saturday, October 10

The Students Lecture Association has issued its announcement for the coming year and as usual have succeeded in getting together a strong array of platform talent. All the men sought have not been definitely secured but the association is still in correspondence with several parties who are strong drawing cards and has hopes of securing at least one of them.

The course this year will be opened by James Whitcomb Riley, who will appear here Oct. 10. Mr. Riley has not made a tour for several years and it was with great reluctance that )he consented to appear on the platform, in a limited number of cities, this year, and the association are therefore to be congratulated upon securing him.

The other numbers will be as follows:

Oct. -.-Madame Gielow, the noted writer and dialect speaker of America and is pre-eminently the artist of the age.

Nov. 14.- Pres. Cyrus W. Northrop, of Minnesota University. Subject, "King Lear.'' President Northrop is a graduate of Yale and for several years held the chair of English literature in his Alma Mater.

Nov. 21.- Walter Wellman, the noted newspaper correspondent and Arctic explorer, will speak on "Behind the Scenes at Washington."

Dec. 5.- Isabel Garghill Beecher, one of the foremost readers on the platform.

Jan. 25.- Dr. Lyman Abbott, who will speak on the negro problem.

Feb. 20.- F. Hopkinson Smith in readings from his latest works. Mr. Smith made a very favorable impression when he appeared here in 1900 and will be warmly greeted upon his return.

Henry Van Dyke, the noted author and divine, is also secured but the date is not settled and one other dale is now under consideration. This with the usual oratorical contest will complete the course.

The season tickets are placed as usual at $2.00 and can be secured of the treasurer, R. S. Davis. whose office is at Cushing's drug store, from 10 to 11 a. m.. and 4 to 5 p. m. Saturday from 8 to 10 a. m.
