THOMAS CARVILLE LEAPED TO DEATH
-----
Jumped From Third Story Window
-----
OVER COLLIN'S SALOON
-----
Sometimes Last Night- Died at the Hospital- Supposed to be Due Despondency
-----
Thomas Carville, bartender and umbrella mender, leaped from a third story window in the Jerry Collins saloon building on Ann street some time Wednesday night and as a result of his injuries died at the University hospital early yesterday morning.
Patrolman "Doc" Collins stumbled over Carville's unconscious body about 2 o'clock a. m. yesterday, and finding that he was injured and not simply drunk as he at first supposed, called up Chief Kelsey. The latter summoned an ambulance and accompanied the injured man to the hospital.
Carville had been drinking heavily of late and it is supposed that despondency over his inability to brace up was the reason for taking his life. He was well known about the county as an umbrella mender- "mush fakir" in the parlance of the hobo fraternity, and fro the past year was bartender in the Collins place. He was discharged 10 days ago, but was still in possession of his room in the third story.
The police experienced considerable difficulty in learning Carville's full name, as no one seemed to know him more definitely than as "Tom." Justice Doty finally came to the rescue, as the man had once appeared before him for being drunk.
