JAIL LIFE IS NOT PLEASANT

ASA NASH HAS PAYED IN HIS FINE

Weakening in His Determination to Stay in Jail Six Months--Term Expires Tomorrow

Asa Nash, the saloon man sentenced to 10 days and $100, has weakened in his resolution to remain in the county jail six months rather than pay his fine, and yesterday he acknowledged to one of the officials that he would give an extra $25 to get out then. His ten days sentence will expire tomorrow and this morning he gave Sheriff Gauntlett his check for $100 in settlement of his fine, which check the sheriff proceeded at once to cash and turn into the public exchequer.

When first sentenced, it is said, Nash offered to bet $100 that he wold never pay his fine, but would serve the six months imposed by Judge Kinne as an alternative. He is now very tired of jail life, however, and no longer insists that he will voluntarily give up his freedom for half a year.

One of Nash's friends informed him that he will not inflict a hardship upon the public by remaining behind the bars for six months, and the saloon man is said to have finally acknowledged that such may be the case.
