A RICH VEIN OF QUARTZ

Struck on Ann Arbor Placer Co.'s Property

$800 TO THE TON

Shown by Samples Tested--Strike Was Made by Accident--Owners Elated

The officials of the Ann Arbor Placer Mining Co. have received word that a remarkably rich deposit of quartz has been found on their property in Eldorado county, Cal. The deposit was located by Charles Andrews, of this city, and was entirely by accident. Andrews had left the mine for Ann Arbor, but at Dog Town, a small place in Eldorado county, was overtaken by a letter directing him to come back and superintend the taking out of certain pipe in the mine. He engaged the services of ten miners at Dog Town, and with them returned to the mine and set about removing the pipe. While at work he found at some distance from the tunnel, but still on the company's property, a deposit of very rich quartz. The samples have tested from $800 to $900 to the ton, and the miners who have examined the deposit pronounce it the richest in Eldorado county.

The company, as its name indicates, is on the grounds to do placer mining, so if the new deposit is to be worked its tactics must be completely changed and new machinery secured.

Mr. Andrews is now on his way home, as there is nothing to be done at the mine this winter.
