The demand for botter roads in our country towns is opening up a new industry to tliose who see in the futuro u constantly increasing cali for the material reqnired in their construction, and the practical erperience of hundreds of years, both in Enrope and America, has led to bnt one conchiMon, viz: That, for road building or repairiiig, crushed stono is pre-eminently the best material for those purposes yet produced. Money otherwise espended on roadways is often yorso than thrown nway, each year finding them in the same, and, in innny inatances, worse condition than the preceding year, while the constant repairs required render them for a large part of the season positively unsiife for travel. In former years, when the stone must be crushed or broken by the slow and tedious procesa of the hand hammor, it is nol sur)risiii}; tht material far inore accessible, viz. , gravel, was used; but vitli the many stout: crushers now in use tha town whieh neglects to avail itself of its opportunity to procure this f;ir more valuable material for its roadways is taƔead lacking in enterprise. The public demand has become imperativo for good and durablo roads, and will be satisfied with nothing else.
