II.' icisouul elForts of sore-hcaikil ■ ïlKi'-frikü-s against Allen shoulU bo considered for wliat they are worth, As republicana tliey sought ofllce and as there were not enough offlses to go arouiiU somo did iiot get it, but when they go aboul iiow cxliiliitiiig tlieir sores people nel only mistrust tbeui but despise them. On tlic c tlier band, the man who desired office, and failing to pet it, stands true and unwuvering In bis loyalt}-, merits the esleem and favor of all true men. Snch men will icceive tlieir reward, while unhiippy will be the fate of the kicker. He who seeks to cover up the real issue ui principie by petty personal matters on a congressmau makes a grave mistake whicli will baant hlm afterwards. The greal issue s not sliall Allen or Gorman h: elecled. It is shall a republican, upon whoin there is no doubt of hia ability n:ú loyalty, or a democrat who is open lo tuspicion, represent tbis district in congress. We have a man able, experlenced and of influence at Washington. Sliall we now put a man there who will be without any of those requisitos which inake for success ? Allen will be elected despite tbc treachery of men who should be true, and the men who vote on the winning sidc will ntvcr have cause to regret it. Those who are not for him are agaiust him, but he is surc to triumpb over all the petty jealousies and spites, the use of money to defeat him and the dirty slanders of his foes. The obvious duty of every republican is to pull true and to work hard for the whole ticket.
