Among the inany associations whose aim has been to aid the poor and help less, few, eonsidering its limited means have accomplished more good than the Charitable Union. The only limit to its usefulness during the twenty-three years of its existence being lack of fund6 for like other orginizations of its kind, i is dependent upon material help fron its friends to carry on the good work During the past year our ward comniit tees, who personally visit and aid the destitute, made and received 321 visita gave assistant to families 123 times, distributed second hand clothing valued a $177.40, and new clothiug to the amoun of $44.40. There has been much sickness, and a number of deaths among the benefiehiriea of our society, and calis for aid have been frequent. Suitable food for the sick, bedding and clothing for the destiute and dying, have been furnished to ;he unfortunate and sorrowful ones where charity was most needed. The donations of money and provisions, :or Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were very liberal and more than fifty lonies were made glad on those annual liolidavs. The sewing school under Miss Brown's eareful supervisión, is the kind of charity that does much good, assisting the children to help themselves, and we trust this branch of charitable work will receive a generous support. We would thank the following persons for gifts of money: Mrs. Royer, Mrs. Beal, Mrs. Angelí, Mrs. Prescott, Mrs. Elisha Jones, Mrs. Bach, Mr. J. L. Babcock, J. T. Jacobs & Co., Blitz & Langsdorf ; also the Presbyterian and Congregational Sunday Schools, the Union Thanksgiving collection, and St. Andrew's church offering. We thank the following societies, for contributing in aid of a free ed at the homeopathie hospital : Golden Rule Lodge, Fraternity Lodge, AVashtenaw Chapter, Ann Arbor Comnandery, Knights of Maccabees, Kings )aughters of Presbyterian Sunday School, and Mrs. Prescott. We also extend thanks to the city jress, through whose kindness our work ïas been kept before the public. We would close our report with the equest that persons having clothing to pare, would send it to any of the ward ommittees, or place it in the box under .he front stairway of Ilarris Hall, and in liis way aid the good work that neede o much assistance. No money can be more wisely spent than that which is ent to the Treasurer of the W. C. U. Mrs. W. J. Booth, Sec. treasurer'8 report.
