The advertiser in a small way often tands aghast at the large surus of money which certain masters of the art are cnown to spend armually in bringing heir goods before the public. Having ïad experience only within his own narrow circle he asks in a bewildered way ïow it is possible tliat they can make it ay. He takes pencil and paper and bejins to figure it cut. Supposing their )rofits on a single s;üe to be so much, he determines how many sales they would ïave to make to cover their entire adverising expenditure. About the time he reaches this result he gives up in despair and falls back upon the oíd but safe conclusión that these princes of advertising are conducting their business for the jurpose of rnaking money. and that if ;hey did not find their advertising paid
