There is probably no custom which lends itself more readily to the propagar tion of infectiousdisease than the household manufacture of articles of clothing-. Every physician whose duty calis him to the homes of the working poor must have been struck with this fact In many cases it could not well be otherwise under existing conditions. Tho twq or three available apartments are occupiell by a fairly numerous family, and a separate workrooin would be regarded not unreasonably as a needless concession to personal comfort. Thus it happens that the same chamber in a "sweater's" tenement, nay, the same bed, often contains the suiïerer from scarlatina or measles and the coat and vest which next week will adorn tho window of some tailor.
