T. Jefferson Coolidge
T. Jefferson Coolidge, -vho has Jnst ieen appointed our minister to ?rance, is a resident of Boston, Mass., in vhich city lie was born August 26, 1831. He is a gradúate of Harvard Univcrsity and has also studied in Europe. Later on he founded the firm of Gardner & Coolidge, and became :he head of several large rnanufacturng companies. He then became president ofthe Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. SIr. Collidge is a very rich man and has resided abroad some times for years at one stretch. He has never been an active politician, and has evinced q, leaning to the mugwumps. He is at the heád of many local charitable organizations in Boston and has given nearly $150,000 to his alma mater, the Harvard University. The new minister speaks French fluently.
