Last week the Courier published au article relative to the injustice done two Cliinese boys whose parents desired to send them to the University of Michigan, by the Chinese exclusión act. Last Sunday's paper coutained the following dispatch relative to them, írom Chicago : "Treasury agents were somewhat puzzled to-day over an order received trom the Treasury Department permitting two Cliinese boys, Wong Tin Doe and Lom Ben, to enter the United States. The parents of these boys are Wonn Let and Lom Do Jung, Chinese merchants at 317 Clark Street. The boys have been on the (anadian border for three montlis awaiting the decisión which came today. Tliey were admitted on condition that they be sent by their parents to Ann Arbor college, Michigan, there to receive a thorough education. This is the first case of the kind ever decided and the government officials are now asking where it will stop. If these Chinese boys are allovved to come into the country, they say, what is to prevent every Chinaman here bringing over a son or even daughter for that matter'? Notiflcation that the Treasury Department acted favorably on the petition of the parents was sent to Charley Lite, a Chinese merehant here, by C. F. Griflïn, the attorney who presented the fact.i to the department, together with a letter showing the parents of the boys as being wealthy merchants who enjoyed the contidence of the business community. It may be that the government bas imposed some conditions on parents but if they have the dispatch did not state them."
