1 In the matter of the assignment of the Register Publishing Co., John W. Bennett, the assignee, has flled quite a readlable answer to the petition of Selby A. Moran, John Koch and W1Iliam G. Henne. He says "In answer to the allegations of a conspiracy betwen A. B. Stevens and N. D. Corbin, in the second paragraph of the said petition set forth, this defendant says that he has no knowledge or inforrrmtlon whatever, this defendant venturos to express nis firm belief that ttie financial stringency of the cims is a tbing of the past and exists only In the im.-niory of said petitloners, that the recent legislation accomplished by the Republican party in congress assembled, aided and abetted by a few recalcitrant members of the Democrauc ving, has infused new life and vigor into -the vit ala of the business wr.Sd. and rhat the noble ship of state raí now be trusted to sail serenely into the harbor -'f plentitude and prospovivy Ai) i this d-jicndant deplores the ill-advised communes urrn the evil times, lnU.Tjcte(ï into tlie ordinary papers of a law suit, as tending lo intensify the gloomy feellngs of the petltlonor. This defendant frars that the references in said petition contained to the "mistrust prevalent in the business world" unless promptly den'ied may carry dismay into the homes of j the humble toilers all over our smiling and. The defendant denies that he has been retained by the said Corbin and Stevens as the professional adviser or attorney or solicitor or either of them, and he Oenies that he was ever paid a fee by said Corbin and Stevens for any professional services rendered for them or either of them in any inatter wherein the said Register Publishing Co. was in any way involvcd, or was the conndentlal professional advieer of the said ; Stevens and Corbin or either of them or has advised with them except as to i the best interests of the said Register Publishing Co., by whom he was ! tained. He denles "that the appraisement of the property was made at too low a figure and denies that he instructed the siiid appraisers to place a low estímate unon the said Droüertv and effects and i he disputes the charge that the appraisers of said property were so ignorant and silly as to suppose that the pretended instructions were given to them." The defendant, so far as informed, says that the inventory was made carefully and conscientiously, "and after its completion no change was made in the satne except to ad'd thereto one article of property for their appraisnl whlch had nearly escaped the grasp of the said compan'y, namely, The Ann Arbcr I Register, a newspaper published and claimed by Selby A. Moran, but whicli beiongs soul, body and breeches to the said Register Publishing Co., as this defendant is informed and believes, and s the fact to be." In the fifth paragraph he does not drny that he may have suggested to divers persons that there might be a shadow of a doubt of the validity of the said chattel mortgage given to the petitioners, John Koeh and Wllllam G. Henne. But he denles that the relation that he sustained towards the said eompany before the making of the said aesifrnment .lisiiualifies hiro from acting tis the usslgnee of saul company. "And this defendant respectfully refers the said petitioners to the legi turo of the state of Michigan if they desire amendments and alterations made in the laws of this state to defer the sales of proprty under the provisic-ns of the assignment laws." As th whole matter has been disposed of except fixing the costs oL the assignee, Mr. Bennett, no furlher action will be taken on this answer.
