Moon Myths
Peoplc the world over have used the dark Unes and spots on the face of the moon as a basis of conjecturiny all sorts of fanciiul pictures. To some thcy appear as an agcd man, bearing a bundie of sticks or fag-ots on his back; ; to othcrs they represent the face of a beautiful wonian. The one hundred and one other moon myths eannot be considered in this "note," which is solelj' intended to explain Indian belief. The red men. who inhabit the whole western continent between the Rocky mountains and the Cascade range, believe thnt the spots on Lunas i face represent the form of a gig-antic toad.
