The tivo villajes which have the greatest elevation above the level of the sea, or, in other words, the two highest inhabited spots on earth, are Areviehiary and Muccapata, mining camps in the Andes. Each of these places lias an average of 200 inhabitants the year round. The elevation of Areviehiary is exaetly 17,050 f eet; that of Mucoapata, 16,168. The observations ivhich established these heights were taken by Arthur Pearce, the engineer, ajid a?.-e reliable.
