Friends who send in items in relaii:m to entertainmente will please bear in mimi that they must send also compltmentary tic-kets if they expect any account to appear in these columns oï the programme presented. - Democrat. What an absurtl proposition ! Are not newspnpers purely puilanthropic enterprises ? Do their owners need any compensation for anything ? Should they not be glad to give extended notices of all entertainments, etc, and then pay their own way in so that they may be able to write elabórate descriptions of what they see, filled with fullsome praise of actors and participants ? The idea that these notices should be worth complimentary tickets is preposterous ! Mo ene but an insane person ■vould even hint that in order to write up an account of an affair it is necessary to see it ! Even then. isn't it worth the price of admission to be allowed the privilege of writing up an account of these affairs, any way ? AVe can't conceive hoiv the Democrat should lie so extravagant in its suggestions ! The item was probably written in haste without giving it proper thought and reflection '?
