Don't do it ïny boys. Keep your tongues froni all evil. let your lips speak tio gulle, Beware of obscenity, nor be lured by tlie smile Of the syren, whose ways will load you to deat-ti. Keep your souls pure and clean from her poisonous breath. Oh, do it niy boys. Let your mouths not be stained with tobacco's foul fumes. And touch uot the bowl that with fire consumes; lts conientsare poison as vile serpeutsstings In the ear of its vietlm the death knell it riugs. Don't touch it my boys. And when the time comes that you leave the home roof, Against gambliug and trickery, show yourself proof ; Never cheat in. a bargain with foe or with friend, Por disgrace and dishonor will ever attend. Don't do it my boys. When the flre of affection on home altars burn All outside temptations with true manhood spurn; Let not the wife of your bosom feel sorrow's keen smart, By neglect or ill treatment, oh! break not her heart. P.emember your mother though absent and lone, She is praying for you in her far distant home : That your íootsteps may ever pursue the straight path, For love of your maker, not fear, of his wrath Remember my boys. And when age comes upon you the past wil] haveshown, That instead of ' wíld oats " ripe wheat you have sown : Your last days will be full of contentment and peace, When the angel of death comes to give you release. 'Twill be well with you boys. And now my dear children, thls boon I would crave, Oh ! bring not iu sorrow the gray hairs to the grave: Of father, and mother, who would glve life to-day, To save each dear boy from goiug astray.
