There is a member of the.board of supervisors hailing from Manchester, who ever since he first held the office has been seeking some way to bring himself before bis constitnency in such a manner as to make bis re-electiou sure. A year ago, at the annual session of the board he persuaded the members of the committee on equalization to do an unjust act after they had agreed not to do it, so that he could go home and teil his people how he had secured a reduction for his town, and piled the burden on the county seat tax-payers. This year lie could not persuade the committee to do what he wanted thein to do, and thinking that he must pose before the people who elected him in some capacity, he rushes into print witli a commuincation in the Enterprise of his village, attacking Judge Kinne. When Mr. Kinne was elected to the ïonorable office of judge of this judicial circuit, a few years ago, the railroads of the state immediately sent him annual passes. These he keptforalittle while, intil at the first term of court over which he presided a railroad case carne on for trial. Then he feit that it was vrong for him to accept of any favors rom corporations that might have their nterests cotne before him for adjudicaron. So he returned the passes at once, elling the roads why he returned them, and he has never held one since that ime, from any road. It was an honrable thing for Judge Kinne to do, though it had not been customary to refuse these railroad fovors by previous judges. The board of superviors hearing of tliïw action, at once passed - unanmiously- a resolution in a measure cornpensating the judge by voting $100 yearly for his expenses. The board at Monroe did a similar kind and just deed, he supervisor from Manchester to the contrary notwithstanding. It is that particular thing that this petty fault flnder puffs himself up over and remarks : "This year by simply stating I would contest this allowance, it was not brought before the board." Right here the writer wislies to remark, that the resolution could have been passed umny a day during the session and the supervisor from Manchester would never have been the wiser, for he was not present over half the time. This self-styled great guardián of the treasury futher remarks : " The board has no legal right to pay claims that have uo valid eonsideration, r uuike presents. I suggest that the judge should refund with interest, all xums paid him for defravinghis personal expenses at Monroe by this couuty forthwith and fail not." If public officials are going to be asked to return funds to the treasury that have been paid them, we suggest that the supervisor of Manchester return a goodly portion of the amount be drew from the county for services he never rendered, both last year ani this year. He drew $40.20 at one time, and $22. 20 at another time this year. The first was for 18 day's service attending the regular session of the board of supervisors, with 10 cents per mile for traveíing expenses added, and the next was for 9 day's service attending the special session following the regular session, with mileage added again. He took pay for every Saturday during all the sessiou, and was never here a Saturday during any session of the board. He took pay for a number of days that he was not outside of Manchester, at least he was not in his seat in the supervisor's room. In other words he is jingling the people's money in his pocket for services he never I formed, and bowling "stop thief" at some one else, to distract attention from liimself. It is suggested tliat this reformer commence the reforming business on Supervisor Watkins, and make biin return tlie unearned nioney be luis taken out of the pockets of thetax-payers "forthwith, and fail not." There are still other facts that can be broiiftlit out if necessary, but this article is already too lengthy.
