An important meeting of the Iseedle Work (iiiild was held Tuesday afternoon, at the residence of Mrs. W. S. Perry, on E. Washington st. At this meeting the ladies interested in the work brought all the garments they 'had securod, and tliat had been contributed by the generous ladies througliout the city, for diatribution among the worthy poor. The garmenfs were over eight hundred iu number, and presented a magniflceut appearance. They were all new ones, not necessarily made by the one wlio presented them, and consisted of uuderclothes, nice woolen stockings, mittens. and almost every form of clothing woru. It would be impossible to enumérate everything. In fact everythiug in the shape of a new gannent that can be worn and made serviceable is accepted. These garments are being distributed to-day among the poor of the city by ladies of the charitable organizations and to people whose names are furnished by pastors of the various churches of the city. The Ladies' Charitable Union will see that inany of them go where they are needed, to the deserving and worthy. There were some forty or flfty ladies present at the meeting. Mrs. Perry made a few remarks explanatory of the guild and the work it has accomplished, and Miss E. Cora Depuy read an interesting paper relating thereto. The parent society of this organization is located in Philadphia. The local society being formed here some eight weeks or more ago. There are ten district presidenta, and these are erapowered to appoint such aids as they may deem necessary. The work these ladies have done is indeed prodigious, and will be the means of helping á great many who need help this winter.
