For a long time the routes of the carriers in Ann Arbor were so long, and the amount Off mail matter carried so great, tliat it was impossible to get through with the'r work In the eight hours prescribed by Iaw, miul it more often toot ten houi-s. The carriers kept an account of all the overtime put In, and some month.s ago prcsented their case to the department at Washington, 1). C. Last fall an official from the P. O. department was ie the city looking up the matter, aed his report was favorable for the allowance of the claims. ïvothiiig haring been lieard from headqua,rters, those interested sent Mr. Duify to Washington as an :i.lt orney to look aiteir their interests. He called upon Postmaster General lïessell, Ass't Postmaster General Jones and the attorney general of the postoifiee department, ïelatlve to the claim, and eecured the'r aid in expeditaig the matter, and a Washington dtepatoh states that the claims will probably be reported to thet reasury department for paj'ment to-day, aoid the same will be recommended to oongress for mnmediate settlement. The carriers most interested are Will Baxter, George Blum, Jas. O'Kane, a.nd Chris Donnelly, each one of whom has put in a claim for about $700. The other carriers who will come in ior lesser amounts are Frank O'Hearn, Earl Ware, Will Armstrong, Jo. Polhemus, Asa Allen and Al Fruhauff. The total amount will reach $,- 000, and each ome of the boys claim that tliey would libe to have it.drop in just about this hoüday time. Hope it will.
