The Cleveland Evening Post of Dec. 8 gives an account of an interesting experiment that was attended among others by Dr. James 0. AVood, late ol this city. The paper says of it : A Rcientifio experiment of unusual interest was performed yesterday afternoon at the power house of the Cleveland Electrical IlluminatingCo. It was the electrocution of a dog and the partial resusciation of tlie animal aíter 3,000 volts of electricity had passed through its body. After this had been done an attempt wasmade to resusciate the body. Dr. Tima slowly and carefully inflated the lungs by means of the bellows, while Dr. Wood pressed the fore legs to ;he chest and expelled the air after each inflation. The mouth and nose were held shut by Supt. Murphy upön each inflation and opened upon every expulsión of the air from the lungs. The body was so hot that Dr. AVood was forced at times to drop his hold on the legs. When air had been forced mto the lungs by three'compressions of the bellows a slight twitching of the dog's lip was noticeable. It continued after three more inllations and then ceased entrrely. A stethoscope was applied by Dr. Arbuckle and tliree faint, feeble beats of the heart were detectcd by the delicate instrument. They ceased and nothing more could bc detected upon tlie application of the stethoscope to other parts of the body. The artificial means of respiration were continued for eight minutes, and upon the expiration of that time the dog's life was pronounced beyond the reach of human skill.
