The euiTcnt nuinber oif The Hotel World dlscusBes the question of day barberlmg in a barbarie marmer. lts logic is all askew. It looks only o;u one side of the question and that the wrong sidc This la a part of w-bat The World saye : "A. city which lias aai ordinance closing ba-rber shops on Soinday is not in favor of clea-nliness and decency. If i't be a fcin or crime tol shave a person or inake lihn a-pp&ar respectarle to tlie eye, the same rules should. apply to bathmg, dressing and miieli that pertains to what the better classes belieTe a nocessity to civilizeü Ufe, in the care of the peirson." Mr. Editor, Michigan lias a law tliat forlxdíi Sunday barbering tlirougliout the state and slie is glad of It. A;nd fu:rthrmorE, we a-re just as cleaji and decent as tlie state of Illinois, where The Hotel World Is published. And above all we have a happier class of barbers than tlie state of Illinois, just because they don't liaTe to spend tlie best part of Sunday at wo.rk at theiir chairs. And th-nt is wliy Michigan has such a law. She warats to pa-otect her labortng men and the latter appreciate that fact. MSchigan's law is not froni what some might term a superficial religiO'iis sentiment tliat would save the fiabbath from eo-called desecratloii, but it cooaies from a deeper and more truly religieus desire to beneiit lier laboring men. And if there are a íew men tvIto can't shave on 6aturday o.r won't sliare themseh-es, then this state is sensible enouglito let tliat few lxiar tliet inconvonience inst-ead oí the barbers who would otlierwise find tio otlier day of rest. It is not a sin, pea'üiaps, to bathe o.r shaie on Bunday, but it is a sin to dieprivO the laborer of a Sabbnth fo-r the benefit ol a few who can not or won't have theiir tonsorial work Wone on Saturday. Michigan is glad that she has such a law, and Illinois could do no better than to. follow euit, The Hotel Worlü to the contrary notwithstanding.
