Tlie republicana of the legislature, in eaucus assembled, last eveniug decided by a fair majority, to elect Hon. Julius C. Burrows, of Kalaniazoo, to fï 11 the place made vacant in the United States Símate by the death of Fraucis V. Stockbridge. There is no doubt bat that Mr. Burrows wil) be au able representative in that body of the republicans of the State. Not the least doubt about it. He lias been fitted Dy a thorourgh training in the House for the position, and will be in an eminent degree a representative of bis party. The Courier believed, and still believes that the i iterests of the republiran party demanded the presence of Mr. Burrows in the House, where be stood preeminetly at the head. But the republicans have decided bj a handsome majority othenvise, and majorities rule in this country. As il uow stands Michigan has two powerful men in the senate, while in the House she stands on equal ground onl'y with the majority of the States. She luis lui man with extended experience and wide influence in that body to look after lier interests, although no one fears but what her able delegation in that body will not let them go by defaalt. Nevertheless the Courier congratulates Mr. Burrows on his promotion, believeing that he has earned it, and that the State and the party will flnd in him as worthy a representative of her interests in the Seuate as he has been in the past in the House.
