Rep. R. Kempf was made chairman of the house committee on public lands. He was also placed on the committees of private corporations and state public schools. Rep. J. B. Wortley was given places on the following committees: federal relations, northern asylum for insane and village corporations. Speaker Gordon disregarded precedent in the matter of minority representation on committees and gave Donavan the chairmanship of the federal relations committee besides places on the education, local taxation, normal school, rules and joint rules, state affairs, state capĂtol and public buildings and ways and means committees. Donovan will have plenty to do. Senator Watts drew three chairmanships, those of the comuiittees on engrossment and enrolling, executive business and senatorial appointment. Besides this, he is on the flnance and appropriations committees. The best country paper published in Michigan is the Grand Traverse Herald. This is said without mental reservation whatever. It is not among the best. It is the best.
