■ - The Trustees of the Society of the i Alumni of the University of Michigan I held two important meetings yesterday, the following beiüg present: President W. J. Staart, of (rand Rapids; Vicej President Wm. Savidge, of Spring Lake,; .1. If. Drake, of Ann Arbor; Treasurer James M. Crosby, of Grand Rapids; Dr. E. S. Sherrill, of Detroit. Trustee Edgar Rexford, of Ypsilanti, ivas the only one absent. The obiect of the meeting was to discuss plans regarding the general policy of the society. The secretary was authorized to cotnmunicate with the subscribers to the Williams Professorship fund in order to secure their permission to change tbis fund to a Williams fellowship fund it being the belief of the trustees that this is at present mueh more desirable. President Stuart was inatructed to appoint a coramittee of live gentlemen and live ladies to arrange for an alumni supper during commencment week, to be an oíd fasliioned informal affair with no toasts. . special effort will be made to secure the presence of Govenior John T. Rjch and his official staffat the coming commencement. This is in emulatipn of castora long followed at Harvard and in a general maliner in the East. The secretary was authorized to draft a resolution thanking the Michigan Alumnus for its efficiënt champiouship of the interest of the alumni and assuring its editor, Mr. A. A. Pearson, of the heartiest support of the Society of Alumni. The action of the Detroit Tribune regarding the University was deprecated by the officers of the society, but thinking that formal action would have no weight nothing was done in regard to the matter. The trustees adjourned to the cali of the president.
