Against The Poor Boy
Should the course in tlie medical department be extended to one of six years tastead of 'four years as now required.t he students would certainly be morecapable of practicing when they gradĂșate, but it would close still more firmly the gate againet the poor boy vrho Jias a difficult job even now of working nis way through thO University. This proposed change would o doubt make a diploma from tbe U. of M. much more valuable than it at present- and it already stands at ttoe head- but it would also be tihe means of reductos the attendance, -which never has been too great in tfhis department. A six years' eourse -hiere, with a three or four years' course at other colleges, would militate against this school, as to num'bers, at least.
