The great quantity of pests, especially nvorms, tliat imfest the flower and vegetable garden, this season, is im a great measure accounted for by the marked absence of robins and ether native birds. Where there were formerly dozens and dozens dE robins, yellow birde, blue birds, chippy, and öther hirös, there is scarcely oae now. And even those that are here are being shot by boys -wllah flobert rifles, "just lor ftm" IF the destruotion of our native birds ie not stopped, and at once, many people -n-Ul have to abandon their gardens entirely. The native lirds are the friendis of the men who cultívate the earth and bring forth fruit and blossoms, to gratify our senses of taste and signt. Tlxose who kill the birds are not omly cruel, but are really enemies of all mankind. "We have laws to protect these ieathered iriends and songsters an;l these laws should he rigidly enforced.
