Notwithstanding the fact that our n at i on a] history has been a living demonstration of the ability of the people to irovern themselves ; notwithstanding the fact that each fresli increiuenl of power which the people have laken ovei to themselves, has been used for the counnon good of hiinianity ; notwitlistanding the fact thai the advance in social, intellectual, moral and relijjions conditiona has been so extensive with this development of pouplar liberties and the political power of the niasses, oue does not need to travel far, even in our own city of Ann Arbor, to flnd men who are afraid of the people who would like to see the direction of affairs restrifted to the hands of the few, and whose political action is directed to that end. It is perhaps superfluous to add that the men who hold such views are usually men who have entrenched themselves in class privilege of some sort or other' and those who are dependent upon their favor. - Daily Times. That may all be, and then again it niay not be. It is for si ble that our Kood friend of the Times has overdrawn the picture somewhat.
