The issue of the Jttegister oí Junen, cantained tlie following, under the heading: "Out early- Too early to be true" : Last week the Times, Courier, Argus and Deiaocrat all uoutained the following annouuceinent : Superintendent of Public Inslructlon J. E. Haminoml has appointetl a Teachers' Institute for Aun Arbor, beginning August 2 and contlnuiiiic one weck. Prof. C. H. Gurney has betn appointoil conductor, with Prof. E. C. Thompson, of Saginaw, and Miss Jenuie Tibbitts, of Chicago, as instructora. The institute wlll be as usual at the high school building. [The talies below are our owu.] ïhere iê two things about this announcenient tliat are correct. One is that there is a teachers' instituto to be held and the other is tliat it is to be held in Washtenaw county. The only errors that appear in the notice are in reference to the date, place of meeting, conductor and instructora. The proper aunouncernent is as follows : TheAnnual Teachers' Institute ior Washtenaw couuty wlll be held iu Ypsilanti, beginning August 9tli andcontinuing oue week. E.C. Thompson, conductor; Webster Uook and Jlargavet Wise, iustructors ; W. N. Lister, local committee. As The Register reaches almost if not quite all the teachers in the county, but little difficulty is likely to result from the erroneous announceinent by our contemporaries. One great trouble with the Register's statement is that it is not true as far as the Courier is concerned. The flrst item quoted by the Register was not published in the Courier last week or the week before or at any other time. The second item quoted was published in the Courier last week, as sent to it by County School Commissioner Elect Wm. X. Lister. If the trutb oL the statement in the last paragraph of the Register's article is to be iudged by the other, of course the people will know just how inuch of it to believe. But referring to early birds, reminds us of the Register itself. The same issue of that paper June 17, has this item : Dr. and Mrs. V. C. Vaughan, their two children and four bicycles sailed from New York yesterday for a siimmer iu Burcpe. Part of the time will be spent in a bicyeling trip through Hoiland. Now the only tliing the matter with that item is the fact that it was "out early - too early to be true." Dr. Vaughan and family did not leave Anu Arbor even until three days after the Register had them on the ocean.
