The Ypsilanti department of the Daily Times lias this account of the deeds of one of its foruer citizens : C;in it be that Wilaiam J. White- the erstwhile proprietor of the Occidental Cafe-the "Oh! White was in the city May 15, justfive days later tban the time sume William J. White is allpged to have taken the $10,000, and he showed his friends here i wad of money as big as Boine words the Willis Correspondent uses ia his obituarios, and made no bones about the f act that he had succeeded in making "another killing." The following is taken from the Chicago Record : "Warrant for an Lover- Jnstice Martin yesterday issued a n arant for the a-rest of William J. White on a charge of stealing $9,360 from Mrs. Diana Chaffee, the proprietress of a boarding liouse at 271-1 Wahash ave. Tlie warrant is the resul t of an ended love affair, Mrs. Chaffee is the widow of the late Charles W. Chaffee, and White or Whitney as he is sometimes called, is many years her senior and resides at 3764 Dearborn st. It is alleged that after making proffers of marriage to Mrs. Chaffee heinduced her to mortgage lier property and give into his hands nearly $10,000, May 10. When White secured possession of the money it is said li is love grew cold and he left Mrs. Cliaffee witb neither money or suitor. Mis. ChaHee expected to uiarry Wliite, she said, at the time she intrusted Jiim witli lier mouey. ïiie pólice are lookin" for White. He has disapeared from his home, but Mrs. Chaffee is coufldent she can direct the pólice to wliere he can be apprehended. Mrs. Chaffee was not at home when a cali was made at her lioarding house but a servant who answered the bell volunteered the iufcrmation that White had not leftt the city, and that uotes had passed between Mrs. Chaffee and him last Sunday."
