RSLIGIOU9 RIOTS AT DETBOIT. Dwtuoit, Mich., March 2).- More than i year ago the mombers of St. Albertus' Polish Catholic Church were rioting because their priest - Father Kolastnski- had been deposed by Bishop Borgess. After a futile attempt to keep the church open with another priest in charge the building was closed and has so reniained bince. At intervals there have been rumors of its reopening, each such report causing great excitement among the congregation, which numbers 7,000. Within a few days a report beeame current that the church would be reopened by Father Dombrowski on March 27. The roport arousci the Kolasinski f action, and trouble was anticipated. On Snnday a squad of policemen were guarding the church and neighboring convent when they were assailoi by a crowd of the Kolasinski supporters. Officer Frank Schraffron was struck in the face with a bnck and bis ;issailant was arrested. The storm then broke. Ten or more pistol shots were fired at the pólice, who were also assailed with a shower of bricks, clubs and other bandy missiles. In reply the pólice ürcd over the heads of the mob and kept them at bay while Mieir prisoner was carricJ awav and aidltional politie protcction secnred. Nearly 3,000 Poles raged ami stormod about the offloers, but no liirther violence was attempted. Half a dozen policciuen were badly batlered and bruised, but none was fatally injured. A few Poles were also hurt, but their companions immediately carried them away, so that the extent of their injuries can not be learned. The pólice are now guarding the disturbed district, but no further trouble is anticipated. The onvent Windows were badly shatterad by 'he flyins bricks.
