Whcn the Pope ascended the throue the cight new Cardinals, Arch bishop Gonzalos, of Toledo; Mf?r, Aloisa Másela, ex-Nuncio at ijsbon; Anhbishop Taschereau, of Quebcc; Arcübishop Gibbons, of Baltiinoro; Archbishop Bernadou, of Sens; Arch bishop Place, of Rennes: Archbishop I.angenieux, of Rheims; and Archbishop Uiordani, of Ferrara, were presented, and after going through the ceremony of kissing the Pope' foot and hand the red hats of Cardinals were placeil on thrir licads by ■ be Pojic.
