Bhooki.yn, Marco 19. -A meeting oí representative citizens of Brooklyn was held in the Art Assooiation rooms last evening to discuss plans for raising íunds for a monument iti mcmory of Henry Ward Beecher. A number of well-known gentlemen, including Mayor Whitney, were present, and Dr. Hall was ctosen to preside. Dr. Hall, in his address, alluded to the f act that in one of his last sermona Mr. Beecher had advocated the establishment of a free library in Brooklyn. Dr. Hall thought it would be very app'ropriate to foand a memorial library, to be known as the " Beecher free library forthe commou people." This wouki not take the place of the propo3ed statue, but would be additional to it The suggestion met with favor, and, af ter speeches by other gentlemen present, a committee was appointed to conduct the work of raising the fund. Subscriptions being called for, f2,065 was contributcd for the statue and 1,125 for the library. The largest single contributor was Moses 8. Beach, who gave 11,000 for the library and $100 for the statue. The meeting adjourned until the 2th inst.
