The shell was an army relie. It hai bjen standing for twe-uty-three years on tho side oí Bolívar Heights, one of the elevaüous overlooking Harper's Ferry. Sunday afternoon Frank Willis and Jesse Jones probed th3 oíd shell with an iron rod, thoir intention being to get what powder out oí it they could. A crowd of .flfteen or twenty congregated around the place to witness the operation. Every thing weut well until the irou set lire to the shell and caused the explosión. The crowd was knocked down and scattered and the lollou-mg poople received severe injuries : Agnes Willis, azeü fourteen year, right le; Tjlown off below the knee. She is not expected "tolive; Georse Willis, her brotlicr, aged six years, left leg broken; Frank Willis, father of the two children and onc of the men who were fooling with the sheil, badly burned about the Jace ; Jcsse Jonc. hand broken; William Turner, foot blown ofT: Edward Poles. leg and jawbone broken aB'i other wounds about the Jiead, will probab'.y die. The forco of the explosión wa3 very great. Pieces of the shell passed througn the house owned by Albert Corkrill and íore away Windows aud plastering, and anothcr pieee went through the dwelling of Edward Polos, whiehwas over 100 yards distant. The uoise was very loud, and it ttracted many people irom the tosvn. The victims are suftermg sreatly. There are other old shells around Harper'b Ferry, but they -ill not be probed for powder.
