The Japs spent Sunday at Whitmore Lake. Workmen have commenced repairing the engines and boilers. Prof. Dennison has taken up two sections in descriptive geometry. The Freshmen will hold a social at the Phi Kappa house, Friday evening. Prof. Pattingill bolted his classes Wednesday and Tbursday. Ho was in Alpena. J. A. Gallup, law '86, has formed a prtnerhip in law at San Jacinto, Cal. C. S. Pierce, law '87, has been confined to his bed with sickness for several days. Jlr. Wade has given the young ladies permission to plant flowers around the library. fm, Hangsterfer, of Detroit, will serve the banquet at the semi-centennial celebration. The scphornores will be entertained by Mrs. Neil, at 44 South Thayer st, Friday evening. The class reading Germán under Prof. Thomas have taken up " Die pungbrau von Orleans." E. 8. Avery, law '87, is able to get out on crutchea, after his long confinement in the hospital. S. A. Moran has coccluded to reraain in Ann Arbor during vacation and teach shorthand. An effort is being made to get kollo K. Bryan to deliver one of his chalk talk lecturea here. Mrs. D. Haroon, of Toledo, is in the city visiting her husband, who is in the dental college. The present class in descriptive geometry is the largest in .the history of the University. The Misses Crosby entertained the sophomores last Friday eveniug. A good time is reported. J. C. Devon, lit. '88, who went to New Mexico last winter for his health, writes back that he is much improved. The Dr. Northiup, shot in an Ohio town, by a saloon keeper for hie extreme temperance views, was a gradúate of the medical department. A party of students walked bout two miles mto the country Monday evening to witness a wrestle between a senior law and a sophomore. The laws are having considerable sport with Fred Stevens, who was reported to have been married some time ago. Fred itïies the allegation. The supreme court is a thing of the past. The terms of the present officers hare all expired and none have been eleeted to fill their places. The laws are complaining bitterly about the examination they are having Thoy cla;m it is the haidest ever held in the history of the law department. The werk of getting ready for the semicentennial celebration is rapidly gong ahead. 2,425 programmes have been sent out to graduates and former students. Prof. Demmon attended the meeting of the "Association of Superintendents of City Schools," at Olivet, last week. He read a paper on " Technical Grammer." President Cleveland, who has been invited to attend the semi-centennial celebration, writes President Angelí that he regrets that he is unable to give a specific response to the invitation whether he can attend or not. The engineers leave for the north, next Wednesiay, the 25'h inst. Their destination is Lelands, a point about 40 miles south of Oharlevoix. All but three or four of a class of twenty-one will go by boat. They will take up the work where it was left last year. The Detroit Tribune for May 12th, says of the Glee club concert : " Probably much better singing has been heard in White's theater than was furnished last night in the concert given by the Michigan University Glee club, but it is certain that no concert was ever more enjoyed by the audience." The Student's Scientiflc association is endeavoring to arrange for a trip, geological and scientific, to the western end of Lake Erie, under the direction of Dr. Winchell. Mr. A. B. Thompson, '89, and H. W. Fairbanks, '89, have the matter in charge. The excursión is not confined to the members of the association, and any one interested in such a trip should see one of these gentlemen. The base ball association have announced the following named gentlemen who will constitute the club the present year: Hibbard and Miller, battery; Wilkinson, McMillan, Carpenter and McDonnell, infielti ; Lawsor., Malley and Jaycox, field ; and Booth, Hildner and Grey, substitutes. The following dates have been arranged: At home, May 24 and June 4, Cass club, of Detroit; June 11, Agricultural club, of Lansing. Abroad, May 30, Amateurs at ' Detroit ; May 28, Cass at Detroit. In addition to these a game will probably be played here during commencement week.
