Mrs. Lucy W. Morgan, who had been in ponr health for some time, passed away last Thursday evening, ia the midst of numerous friend9 and ielative?, at the age of 91 year3. Mrs. Morgan was bom in MiddletowD, Conn., and for a uumber of years was a successful school teacher. In 1830 she moved to this city, when there were but three houses in the hamlet. Being a woman of more than ordinary ability, ia the way of business, she had amassed a fortune amounting to about 250,000. Much of her wealih was iavested in real estáte in this city and Ja toon. In an early day she purchased a large tract of land where the city of Jackson now stands. Latter on she deeded a portion of it to the city for a park ; but the city did not use it for this purpose ar.d deeded it to the M. C. E. R. Co., to build their shops upon. Mrs. Morgan seeing that the property was not used for the purpose she had intended, brought action in tbe courts and recovered $40,000. By such business tact she had accumulated her fortune, and in saving it she was as equally suocessful. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the residence, corner cf Huron and Fifth-sts. _________ Sir Michael Hicks-Beach is said to be regaining his eyesight, and the cataract has stopped its nrcgress.
