Neoacnee, Mich., May 15. - Forest fires surround this city. To the north oí tho city a very valuable tract of pine timber ia being destroyed. On the southeast, thre miles from here, a fine belt of hard wood is being burned over. Ia every direction can be seen nothing but fire and smoke. Some of the outlying mining locaiities are in danger. The city is enveloped in a thick smoke that is almost stifling. A large quantity of cord-wooi, posts and ties are desti-oyed. The loss already is $50,000. The weather is hot and dry and rain is very much needed. Grken Bat, Wis., May 15.- Forest fires are increasing in all directions, and smoke hung thickly about the city Friday. On the Unes of all the raüroads fire3 are burning on both sides of the track. Farmers in all directions are discouraged at the prospect They are afraid that the fires will burn their buildings, and the drought that has already set in bids fair to be like the disastrous one of last year. Stürgeon Bat, Wis., May 15. - Forest fires are bUrning in this county, and the air is filled with smoke. Phillips, Wis., May 15. -Forest fires are raging extensively in Price Couuty. A barn and two warehouses of the jump River Lumber Company at Prentice were burned Friday and the village narrowly escaped destruction. There is no immediate danger liere. St. Paul. Minn., May 14.- Forest fires along the river northeast of Brainerd have burned over two or three townships. A heavy rain which feil last evenin? has greatly assisted the settlers in the flght against the fiamos. The greatest injury done to timber, ties and logs is in the vicinity of Horsashoe lake. Settlers have lost stock and buildings, Chbbotgan, Mich., May 16. - Fire is raging fiercely in the woods in several parts of this county. Rain feil yesterday morning for a few hours, but did nat iall in sufficient quantity to allay the danger. Near Burt Lake the situation is critical, the lire licking up every thing in its path. Houses, barns, fences and standing timber are said to have been destroyed. Heavy smoke stHl hovers over this city and section. Considerable damage is reported north of Stanwood and sonth of Big Rapids. No estímate of loss can j et be given from Howard City, where the Sames still continue to spread. East and north of Fife Lake heavy fires are reported and continue to spread. The milis at Cadillac are in no immediate danger, but rain is anxiously hoped for in that vicinity. Crops are about dried up, and many men are on continual duty fighting the fiamos. Several towns have boen saved with difficulty. A forcé of men are fighting the fires all over the península, Much valuable pine has been destroyed, and a great deal of wood and railroad ties are not yet delivered. Eau Claire, Wis., May 17.- Passengers over the Wisconsin Central from the north report fires raging in tbe pineries along the north fork of the Flambeau river with fierceness. The woods never were knowa to be so dry as they are at present, and it is feared much standing pine will be destroyed.
