San Francisco, July Ü6. - The Pacific Mail steamer City of Rio de Janeiro arrived Sunday night, bringing Hong Kong advices to July 1 and Yokohama news of July 9. By the loss of the steamer Sir John A. Lawrence in the Bay oí Bengal 800 hves were lost, mainly pil. grime of the best families in Bengal. From the 21st to the 35th of May a cyclone raged in the Bay of Bengal with. disastrous results to shipping [and attended with great loss of life. The storm was the severest experienceJ in that quarter since 1S66, judging from the reporta of vessels whicb. weathereil it. The passengers on board the John Lawrence numbfred 75 tHe offlcers and crew numbered fifty. The passengers were mainly women goin? on a pilgrimage to the famous temple of Jaganath, at Puri. There is scartely a native family in Calcutta which does not bemoan the loss of a reltttive by the disaster.
