NI MEROLS FIRES. New York, Aug. 18.- The striking inerease of the losses by tire throughout th country Ís attracting public as well as Insurance attentiou. The ajfgTegate loss during 1886 was a round $105,000,000, th largest annual los en record except Ín 1884, when it reached $110,000,000, and except, of course, the years of th Chicago and Boston tires. But the cnrrent year bids fair to look at its close upon th largest annual ah-h:ap that was ever seen. The average monthly loss thus far in 1887 has been over 010,000,000, the total figures being Q76,928,100, making seven months' loss larger than the entire annual loss of any year previous to 1881, and that year it was ïess than $1,000,000 more. An analysis of the statistics shows that incendiarism is responsible for a larger percentage of fires than any other known rase. Detective lluef come next, Chebotgan, Mich., Aug. 20. - Forestflres are again raging to au alarming extent on th8 other shore across the straits. A heavy smoke is hanging ovfr thÍR entire section. Spbingfield, O., Aug. 33.- The village of De Graff, Logan County, a place of 1,200 inhabitants, was oliuoet destroyed by flre Saturday night. The business portion of the village was nearly wiped ut, and several residences are reported deitroyed. The loss is alwut $,'{0,000. Indianapoljs, Ind., Aug. 23. - It is estimated that 300 miles of fence have been buxned alongside the railways in this State during the recent drouth. In most cases it Is old board fence, and will now be replaced by wire fence, which nre does not materially damage.
