New Yoek, Sept 1.- The following official announcement was made yesterday by the president of the United States Expresa Company: "The plant, franchise and business of the Baltimore & Ohio Express has been sold to the United States Express Company for a periodo! thirty years. The sale was made directly by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company, no ether parties being recognized. The agreement was consummated last week, and we take possession to-morrow. The negotiations for the sale hare been pending about a month, having begun with President Garrett before his departure for Europe." It is stated on Wall street that the price paid was $'2,500,000, of wnich $1,000,000 was paid in cash and $1,500,000 in United States Express stock.
