Veüsailles, Dec. 5. - The Congress of the Senators and Deputies at Versailles on Saturday eleeted M. Sadi-Carnot to succeed President Grevy. The successful candidato Is a Eepublican who has been prominent In politics ever since the downfall oí Louis Napoleon. President Sadi-Carnot was formally installed in the Elysee Palace yesterday afternoon, and later received visita from exPresident Grevy, M. Bouvier, President Peytral, of the budget committee, and other leading politicians. The President etated that it was nis intention, after the new Ministry was formed, to at once close the present session of Parliament until after the coming Senatorial eiectiona The newspapers generally approve the election of M. Sadi-Carnot and consider it an augnry of peace. The telegrams from the provinces, without exception, testify to the satisf action feit at the result of the election. The new President announces that he ■will not form a Cabinet until he has conBulted with th.e Presidents of the Senate and and Chamber of Deputies and the heads of the various Kepublican groupa
