To the Editor of The Registe : Sm: - Alter a protracted ab ence I strayed into the Methodist fdifice list Sunday, and, howeverit happened, listetifd with pleasure to the eloquent plea of Dr. RaíESiy for the recognition of the poor by the church and their admission within her sacred walls, with the folio wing resu't: The Sabbath moming's favored chime's A sacred day of rest, And doubly dear its welcome chimes To weary and opprest. After their week of toil and care They need this day of rest, Which God the Father did prepare, And which the Savior biest. Oh. welcome them, ye favored few, Within your churehes grand, Kemembering that together you Must in His presence stand. And sure as you exclude them here, You' 11 be excluded there; On thls the bible is most clear, That for them you must care. " Blessed ye poor," our Savior said ; With them He chose to live, For them upon the cross He bied, For them His life did give. Though now a crown reste on His head, And though He shares a throne, He'll ne'er forget that those He led Were humble and unknown. Forest HM Cemetery, Jan. 15, 1888.
